Royal Oak's Best Brunch

Royal Oak's Best Brunch

Brunch in Royal Oak means picking a side, and I’ve got opinions about all of them. I circled the block for Alchemi, then cried over a good croissant at Seven Sundays, all before noon.

You want everything from a schnitzel that beats Vienna to a salad the size of a football at Village Grill. I ate my way through the parking lots and the farmers market, and my only regret is the jeans.

Here’s where to go when the eggs need to slap.

Steak is life changing
Rose drink impresses
Seasonal menu, always fresh
Worth the parking hassle

I walked into Alchemi ready to hate the parking situation. I left ready to forgive it. The steak, okay, the steak. It changed me. I cannot be normal about it. The rose drink surprised me, floral without being soapy. I hate soapy. The menu shifts with the season, so nothing feels tired. You pay for that freshness, and you will not care. I circled the lot twice, swore once. I'd do it again tomorrow. This place earns the hassle. Absolutely earns it.

Cacao Tree feels like a warm hug from a friend who also makes great coffee. The bowls are fresh, flavorful, and leave you feeling heroic about your choices. I had the whipped honey coffee. Worth every sip. The owner came by, genuinely interested in how it was. The staff know their stuff. They are sweet, which helps when the room is cozy and cramped. I already planned my next visit before I finished. I will be back. Probably this weekend. No shame at all.

RSVP has a calm that is hard to find. The salmon fillet, let me just say, cooked exactly right. Crispy, buttery, flaky. The drinks hit, and dessert showed up looking like a dream. The staff treated me like a regular. I am not. They do that. A quiet vibe with just enough buzz to keep it alive. I might keep this one secret. No, I already told two people. This place is easy to love, easier to return to.

CURATE put Evelyn in charge of my whole day. She killed it, responsibly. I tried the Southwest Chicken Flatbread because it sounded loud. It was. Bold and messy and worth it. The tenderloin steak? Overpriced? No clue, can't hear you. I paid it again. Portions were generous without becoming low dull. Free parking. I had almost stopped caring by then. This spot is for the quality and for what Evelyn does best. She is a queen. Royal Oak, hang your head. I would wait all day. I barely waited.

KAL's is inside the farmers market, which is the best part of going to the market. They move fast, which is good because I get hungry. The stuff is consistently fresh, homemade Mediterranean vibes. The warm pita with huge portions, a great combo. They gave me easy substitutions to please my allergy-loaded brain. Very kind, welcoming owners who can see you. I almost cried. The freshness, really. It's quick, but good food isn't always slow. Some say real, some say ripe.

Beverly Hills Grill got me seated fast, which already put them ahead. The English muffins were toasted perfectly. Not burnt, not gummy. A skill. The braised short rib was the star. Melty, rich, absurd and each bite holding its own. Menus have enough variety to make a group fight with enthusiasm. Service was pleasant without being fake. I would book ahead. It gets busy when it's good. This room works hard for that. Proof that doing the basics right means a lot. I will be back.

Pronto! Diner. I go here to consistently have a good time. The staff talks to each other and also to you. The dishes get creative without getting precious about. I'm still thinking about their salad, and I usually avoid salads. This one was worth real money. Plus no one is trying to win a Michelin. It's easy, comfortable, good diner chaos. You want a reliable slice of life that doesn't yell at you, Pronto! answers. I have never left sulky. Good, my lying.

Lamb Butter Masala slaps
Worth the post-concert wait
Counter staff is a gem
Unique decor catches eyes
One of Royal Oak’s best

Detroit Eatery serves a Lamb Butter Masala that slaps. Slaps is a scientific term. I don't care what you say now. I showed up after a concert, waited, and I'd do it again. The counter staff was incredibly down to earth. It holds the feeling of easy going with a decor that catches attention. Street art, weird trims, voice. This might be one of Royal Oak's best kept secrets, except it's not secret anymore. Go hungry. Order with confidence. It won't fail you.

Worth the trip alone

Seven Sundays. The croissant is a flaky, magestic invitation to stop eating them. I had the oat black & tan, which is a coffee drink, and it goes hard. The staff is unusually kind without fake strings. They take care of your caffeine schedule. The vibe is so chill I considered moving in. Honestly worth the trip alone. Sitting in a great corner with a great pastry, feeling the world quiet down. This is my Sunday. It should be your too. Get there. Stay long.

Attentive, busy-but-great service
Crab cakes Benedict standout
Diner vibes with leftovers
Coffee kept hot and full

Village Grill. Diner vibes on the floor level, juicy leftovers on the plate. They got me a salad the size of a football. I was surprised and pleased. The crab cakes benedict was actually good, clean, crispy, hot. They were busy but still checked on me regularly. My coffee stayed full and warm. Which is commitment. You get table talk, clatter, a good sense of place. I left with a to-go bag. This is a true place. Big, honest, busy. Fine line. It does fine.

Big bold standout croissant
Inviting return visits naturally
Worth checking out yourself

Atomic Coffee can be your workspace without all the death stares. Seating is nice, and the vibe is inviting without anyone pushing you out. There was one croissant that was particularly huge and bold. I kept coming back to it. Honestly, I returned. Coffee shop ends are often loud because of chatter, but this feels open. You are naturally invited back. It's not trying too hard. Which is ok. I think you should try it yourself. I'm not gatekeeping. Well, maybe a little. Two, but I'm sharing.

Best cinnamon roll ever
Schnitzel beats Vienna's best
Fast, friendly, spot-on service
Cocktails worth the wait
Busy for very good reason

Oak Parker is the name to the game. Their cinnamon roll is the best way you can treat your body. Tender, sharp with frosting. The schnitzel? I have been to Vienna, and I am going to say it, beats it. I have taken my stand. Service is fast, friendly, and spot-on. Cocktails had vibe to start with, coming with a kick. It was busy, and there's good reason. They move with precision but also in joy. This. This is a brunch place that has it all. Walk. Take a friend. Die happy.
