Kirkland's Best Brunch

Kirkland's Best Brunch

Brunch in Kirkland is a blood sport, and I have the caffeine jitters to prove it. You can anchor a boat at El Encanto for a churro ice cream sandwich, or you can gamble on a shrunken omelet at George’s that tastes like regret.

This list runs from all-you-can-eat crab with a Seattle skyline view down to a coffee stand that remembers your name, and I ate my way through every single one so you don’t have to. Some spots nailed it, others made me watch my coffee cup tip over.

Read on. You have reservations to make.

Impressive salad flavor depth
Immediate seating with reservations
Avoid dinner rush chaos

DERU does breakfast right. I walked in with a reservation and sat down immediately, which is more than I can say for most brunch spots in this town. The ingredient quality is genuinely top-tier. Fresh doesn't even cover it. Their salad had a depth of flavor that made me reconsider my life choices. The breakfast service is excellent, and I didn't have to fight a single person for a table. Just avoid dinner rush chaos. Unless you enjoy waiting. I don't.

Longtime regulars now disappointed
Portions shrank, flavors faded
Service remains attentive and friendly
Loud dining room, no acoustics
Coffee cups tip easily

George's has been around long enough to know better. The longtime regulars I saw looked disappointed, and I understand why. Portions have shrunk. Flavors have faded. The service is still attentive and friendly, which is nice, but it can't save a plate that tastes like it gave up. The dining room is loud, with zero acoustics, so prepare to shout your order. Also, watch your coffee cup. It tips over if you breathe too hard. I left feeling like I'd visited a memory that had gone stale.

Cactus Kirkland knows how to do brunch with a twist. The smoky brisket burrita is the standout. It's messy, bold, and exactly what I want on a weekend. The birria quesadilla with consommé is a solid second act, especially when you dip it properly. The housemade ginger beer is sharp and refreshing. Service was attentive and friendly throughout, which is rare. The ceviche delivers a spicy kick that woke me up faster than coffee. I left full, happy, and slightly sweating. Worth every bite.

Anthony's HomePort Kirkland is all about the view. The waterfront setting with the Seattle skyline is hard to beat. The all-you-can-eat crab is a dangerous proposition, and I took full advantage. Complimentary valet parking is a nice touch, especially when you're juggling bags and hunger. The service was attentive and warm, which made the whole experience feel special. If you can, grab a seat upstairs at the bar for sunset. It's the kind of brunch that feels like an occasion. Bring a bib.

L'Experience Paris - Kirkland feels like a little escape. Sunday morning here was warm and welcoming. French music played softly, and the decor was tasteful without being stuffy. The croissants and coffee were excellent. I'm still thinking about that first bite. The service was genuinely kind and personal, which is rare these days. There's also a quirky teddy bear charm that I didn't expect but oddly appreciated. It's not trying too hard. It just works. I left feeling like I'd had a proper Parisian morning, minus the jet lag.

urban COFFEE lounge gets the basics right. The coffee is spot-on every time, which is more than I can say for half the places in Kirkland. The service actually smiles, which is a small miracle. You can sit inside or out, depending on your mood. The energy is calm, and the playlist is better than average. The matcha is worth the hype, and I'm picky about matcha. This is the kind of place where you can actually get work done or just stare out the window. I did both. No complaints.

The Lime is more of a bar than a brunch spot, but it does brunch-adjacent things well. The massive stage has superb sound, so if there's a live act, you'll hear every note. Beer prices are reasonable. The pretzel sticks with beer cheese are dangerously good. The staff are friendly, and the bar is uncrowded, which is a rare luxury. Parking is plentiful, so no stress there. It's not a classic brunch, but if you want a laid-back afternoon with a drink and a snack, it works. Just don't expect eggs Benedict.

Lively but crowded weekends
Worthwhile only if nearby

203° Fahrenheit Coffee Co. is fine. The staff are friendly and patient, even when the weekend crowd turns the place into a circus. The coffee is solid, but nothing special. It does the job. The weekends are lively, which is a polite way of saying crowded. I'd only go if I were already nearby and needed a caffeine fix without the hassle of parking elsewhere. It's not a destination. It's a pit stop.

El Encanto is the kind of place you stumble upon and never forget. There's dock staff for boaters, which feels very Lake Washington. The carajillo is the best I've had around here. The churro ice cream sandwich is a ridiculous, glorious mess. The views are unbeatable, especially at sunset. The whole place has a relaxed, memorable atmosphere that makes you want to linger. I did. No regrets. Just bring a designated driver.
