Maui's Best Brunch

Maui's Best Brunch

You want the best brunch in Maui, but the island is a breakfast battlefield. It goes from sunrise-chasing fuel stops to resort tables where the macadamia pancakes cost more than your gas bill.

I ate at every single one of these places, often twice, and I have the sunburn and the garlic breath to prove it. The gap between a perfect Loco Moco and a forgettable pastry is huge out here.

This list is your survival guide. Go find your plate.

Highlights
Fresh, local, thoughtfully prepared food
Breathtaking sunset views
Casual yet premium dining
Attentive, warm service
Consistent across all orders

I sat at Mala Ocean Tavern and watched the sun drop into the Pacific. The food matched the view. That is rare. Everything we ordered came out fresh, local, and thoughtfully prepared. The fish tasted like it swam that morning. The cocktails had restraint. The service was warm without hovering. It feels casual, but nothing about it is lazy. Premium, yes. Pretentious, no. Every plate at our table was consistent, which is harder than it sounds. I finished my meal and did not want to leave. That is the whole review. Go for the sunset. Stay for the food.

Great pre-Hana breakfast spot

Baked On Maui is a small stop before the road to Hana. It does not need to be more than that. I grabbed coffee and a pastry and felt instantly better about the winding drive ahead. The bakery does not try to be fancy. It just works. The bread was soft. The coffee was hot. The service was quick because they know everyone is on a schedule. You are not going here for a long meal. You are going here to fuel up. That is exactly what I needed. If you are heading to Hana, stop. If you are not, stop anyway. It is that simple.

Fresh fruit shines brightly
Killer coconut juice
Cute staff, free fruit prep
Worth the long wait?

Island Fresh Café has a line. I waited. I complained internally. Then I drank the coconut juice. All was forgiven. The fruit here is the star. It is bright, cold, and cut with care. The staff are cute and they prep your fruit free while you wait. That is a nice touch. But is it worth the long wait? I am still deciding. The food is fresh. The vibe is fine. The coconut juice alone almost justifies it. Almost. If you have time, go. If you are hangry, skip it. Your patience will be tested. Your taste buds will thank you.

Perfect post-sunrise breakfast stop
Must-try homemade bread
Loaded veggie omelette options
Bustling local atmosphere
Friendly neighborhood history

Grandma's Coffee House is the perfect post-sunrise stop. I stumbled in after watching the sky turn gold and immediately felt at home. The homemade bread is the move. Do not skip it. It is warm, dense, and honestly better than most things I ate on the island. The veggie omelette was loaded and messy in the best way. The place was bustling with locals. That says something. The staff know the neighborhood history and they will tell you if you ask. The coffee is strong. The energy is friendly. I left full and slightly nostalgic for a place I just met.

Well-oiled team of professionals

Monkeypod Kitchen runs like a machine. A very good machine. I walked in during the busy rush and got seated fast. That never happens. The service is clockwork. The team knows their roles. The food balances savory, sweet, and spicy with real skill. I had a dish that hit all three. I was impressed. This location matches the others, which is a feat. Consistency is hard in Maui. They do it. The staff are professionals. The kitchen is sharp. It is not the most adventurous brunch, but it is reliable. And reliable is sexy. Ask anyone. I will be back.

Gracious with late arrivals

SixtyTwo MarcKet surprised me. Parking was easy and free. That alone earned points. The service was excellent and thoughtful. Our server was gracious even though we arrived late. I appreciate that. The menu is unique and satisfying. I ordered a Loco Moco. They have three creative versions. I tried one. I wanted the others. The food came out hot and well composed. This is not a tourist trap. It feels like a place locals would send you. The vibe is calm. The staff care. I left with that rare feeling of having found something good by accident. I will not forget it.

Spectacular resort property
Best macadamia pancakes
Quiet, calm atmosphere
Excellent resort service

Humble Market Kitchin sits on a spectacular resort property. The view is ridiculous. The macadamia pancakes are the best I had on Maui. That is a bold claim. I stand by it. They are nutty, buttery, and somehow not heavy. The atmosphere is quiet and calm. No chaos. No screaming kids. Just a relaxed brunch with excellent service. The staff treat you like a guest, not a number. The resort polish is there. It works. I ate slowly and stared at the ocean. That is the whole point. If you want luxury without stuffiness, this is it.

True hole-in-the-wall charm

Faithful Grinds is a hole in the wall. I mean that lovingly. The flavors are real local Hawaiian. Nothing watered down for tourists. The portions are massive. I ordered one plate and could have fed two people. The counter service is warm and patient. They answered my questions without rolling their eyes. The wait was short. Worth it. The musubi was great. The garlic noodles were better. This is comfort food made with care. The charm is genuine. You are not here for the decor. You are here for the food. And the food delivers.

Highlights
Staff consistently friendly and helpful
Drinks reliably worth returning for
Open, pleasant seating atmosphere
Dish quality varies wildly
Service can vanish entirely

Paia Bay Coffee & Bar is a contradiction. The staff are consistently friendly. The drinks are reliably good. I had an iced latte that was worth returning for. The seating is open and pleasant. Then the food came. It was inconsistent. One dish was great. Another was forgettable. The service also vanished halfway through. I sat with an empty cup for too long. That is frustrating. I want to love this place. The coffee side is solid. The bar side seems fun. But the kitchen needs focus. Go for drinks. Manage expectations for food. You have been warned.

Cute, island-inspired interior
Convenient, busy central spot

Quick stop for coffee

Maui Coffee Roasters is a quick stop. That is its purpose. The interior is cute and island-inspired. It feels like a place a local would recommend. And they do. I asked around. This came up often. The location is central and busy. Busy is good. It means the coffee turns over fast. I ordered a simple cup. It was fine. I was not blown away, but I was satisfied. This is not a destination brunch. This is a fuel stop. If you need coffee and a pastry, it works. If you want a scene, look elsewhere. Simple and effective.

Massive, shareable portion sizes
Best musubi on Maui
Garlic noodles packed with flavor
Comforting, authentic island cooking

Da Kitchen serves food that makes you stop talking. The musubi is the best on Maui. I sampled several. This one won. The garlic noodles are packed with flavor. I mean packed. The portions are huge. I shared. I still struggled. The cooking is authentic and comforting. It tastes like someone's family recipe. The vibe is casual. No frills. Just good food. You will wait a bit. That is fine. The payoff is worth it. I left full, happy, and slightly embarrassed by how much I ate. That is the sign of a successful brunch.

Killer iced caramel macchiato
Acai bowls worth waking for
Sushi night nearly unbeatable
Chillest vibe in Paia
Taco Tuesday with cheap beers

Belle Surf Cafe & Lounge has the chillest vibe in Paia. That is not up for debate. The iced caramel macchiato is killer. I had two. No regrets. The acai bowls are worth waking for. Seriously. The sushi night is almost unbeatable. I did not see that coming. The staff are laid back and friendly. Taco Tuesday has cheap beers, which is a dangerous combination. The seating is open. You can linger. I did. This place does not try hard. It does not need to. The food and drinks speak for themselves. Go for the acai. Stay for the sushi. Leave happy.
